16K Mile 65 El Camino on BaT
Offered at no reserve. Engine and compartment have obviously been fluffed, but hopefully this will not be as controversial as the 70.5 Z28 was....
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...-el-camino-12/ EDIT: I see that it also appears to have those optional gigantic horns that we saw on a 65 Chevelle SS convertible a few months ago. And did someone really have to buy "Hankook" tires for it?

I don't know about controversy, but the "Caution Fan" sticker is on the wrong side of the radiator.

Apparently the Fan sticker doesn't bother some people. At 35K already.

Is there even supposed to be a "Caution Fan" sticker? I'm not up on these earlier models.

Well, sarcasm doesn't come through very well on a forum sometimes.
No, the sticker doesn't belong on either side of the radiator support. I was just making light of the fact that, not only did someone install a sticker that doesn't belong, they didn't even put it on the side of the radiator support where the fan is located.

----The best 65 El Camino on earth resides in Coral Gables Fla. I have tried to buy it multiple times but it is still owned by a good friend of mine. I haven't seen it in several years now but talked to my friend a couple of months ago. Its a 300hp 4-speed and has around 5000 original miles and is a piece of artwork. My friend is a relatively quiet guy who is well known in Corvette circles for his 67 L88 Coupe....Bill S

Were the door strikers painted body color in 65?
The more I look at this car, the more it appears to have been restored, rather than a survivor. Auction listing doesn't commit one way or another. I have a hard time believing the carpet is original. Really bright. Even when stored mostly in doors, they tend to fade, especially red. Vin has one rosette rivet and one round rivet, making me wonder if it has been off the car. Firewall paint does not look factory at all. Never seen such pristine FACTORY APPLIED black paint on lower control arms and frame, even at 16k miles. Many of today's buyers don't care at all as far as restored vs survivor. Lots of big $$$$ changing hands the last six months. $35k for a powerglide 283 El Camino is pretty strong.

Some 65s had round stainless steel VIN rivets, and I have seen others from KC with one of each.
Door strikers, door latches and screws were NOT painted in 64-67 Chevelles, except for KC cars built after mid June of 1967 which had painted latches and screws but NOT painted strikers. The carpet looks original (or at least old) based on the wear by the side of the passenger seat. The floor mats are repro 67's though. Where'd the spare and jack go ?? Definitely a lot of fluffing under hood and chassis. Wrong master cylinder, coil, later optikleen, etc. Nice car, but that bid price is insane IMO for a 283 glide car. My 67 327 / 3-on-tree elc has 22K miles, was one owner until a month before me, and is every bit as nice as this one (minus the fluffery). But I got it in an auction for less than $17K ...
