Default Awesome Original Owner '67 400HO/4-sp GTO

Great car - this one checks all the boxes, and it's being sold by the original owner no less.

Amazing that the car was restored in 1990 and still looks this good.

Just realized this car was actually Tyrol Blue with a black PAINTED top from the factory...that would look even nicer IMO.

Default Saw this yesterday

1967 GTO WS from Original Owner - Nice.

He got rid of the factory Black Painted top and filled the trim holes - Bad.

Plus a complete reworked engine from factory specs - Bad.

It would be easy to drill out the holes for the aluminum trim and paint the top Black again, but that engine modification is permanent.

Oh well.

Pretty DAMN nice car. Original one owner, and tell me if you owned it you wouldn't have wanted a little more horsepower......

You are VERY critical of non-stock ( if he hadn't told you, if the cam wasn't too radical) how would you know?? $47,000 not a bad price, even at Canadian $$.
If it was sitting in your driveway, would you like the critique? I'm pretty sure.. NOT

Mr. LT1vette,

What’s up, there’s critique all over this site about all cars. It’s all good.
Geezzz, I see “broach mark” critique almost everyday here.

I didn’t mean to ruffle feathers, I just like UFO (Unrestored Factory Original).

BTW, I would know just by the idle of a pumped engine like his that it’s not factory spec.
An HO car has plenty of horsepower.

Cheers 🍺

I surprised the guy didn't use a donor block and heads for the 2009 rebuild. Why stroke the original engine?

The original engine needed rebuilt at 150k. Why rebuild two engines, and have one laying around. And, the cost and hassle of reinstalling the original engine when you sell it.
Adding an extra 50-75 hp/torque to a stock appearance engine with better rods, pistons, more stroke doesn't ruin an engine. The cost is almost the same using new, stronger parts, than 150k rebuilt Mickey mouse Pontiac parts.

I understand the stroker kit. I went thru this with my LS5. The way they build engines today is very different than 50 years ago. Flat top pistons help the flame travel and not trap hot spots causing detonation, like a high dome piston does. With zero deck height being the goal, MANY blocks get machined to match the stock pistons and with Chev's, that means losing the original broach pattern and stampings. It may not have adversely affected the Pontiac block, but my engine builder said he could accomplish the same thing by ordering a stroker kit and specifying the wrist pin location to get zero deck and not machine the block. NONE of the changes to my LS5 are permanent, as mechanical parts are "bolt in". If that Pontiac had a stock cam, no one listening to it run would have a clue that it had a stroker reciprocating assembly inside.
