Default Throwback Tuesday

Out of boredom, I thought I'd post a few pics & storylines regarding a 69 Z28 that I bought back in 1973 with the intent to make it a street/race car. Bought it minus engine, trans, console w/gages, hood, grille, tires & wheels for $300 (!) in January of 73. Frost lime green, green vinyl top. green deluxe interior. Body looked a little rough but I thought it would be OK...and the price was right Sold its OEM blue light AM-FM stereo radio to a friend for $10 Here are a couple pics of it as bought...

Bought an M22 from a 71 Corvette, pulled the LT1 out of my 70 Z28 to use as the drivetrain. Freshened the LT1, added the 140 off-road cam, an Edelbrock Tarantula intake with 750 Holley double pumper, and Hooker headers. Eventually traded the OEM 4.10 rear axle assembly for another one that already had a 4.88 installed. Here is a picture of the day the drivetrain was being installed in my mom's driveway with plenty of moral support from my friends, my wife-to-be, and my uncle. Also a couple pics with the drivetrain installed and the car in running condition, needing to have the front sheet metal installed.

A couple pics taken at Byron (IL) drag strip in September of 73. 13.00 dial-in time on the window shows this was when I still had the 4.10 gear in it and before I had the car sorted out.

Default My Old 69 Z28

Finally, a few pics after I had it painted and as finished-up as I ever got it. Body & paint was awesome (thanks Fred!!) but the rest of the car was pretty crude by today's standards. After getting it all sorted out, it ran a best of 11.98, twice, and consistent 12.0's otherwise. It was a blast on the street

Love these type of projects/ stories. I love to look at my trailer queen, But this is really what these cars were all about.
