Here is one that I find incredible!

https://www.mecum.com/lots/FL0121-44...tte-resto-mod/

Sold for $412,500 with the buyer fee.

THE EXACT SAME CAR sold at the Mecum auction 6 months before for less than half that - $200,250 with the buyers fee!

I've been wondering where all the money for crazy prices like this came from in a, supposedly, depressed economy. Is it foreign buyers having Americans bid fro them to hide their identity ? Did they give these people free rein to bid to win, so they just kept bidding ? Many of the prices are insane to me too. Hard to comprehend.

It will be very interesting to see if this frenzy carries over to Rick's auction. I'm betting he is very excited to see this come to him.

That CT70 was insanity. I love them, but whoosh.

Default L-88 corvettes

i like to hear from corvette guys on the 2 L-88 convertables. 290-300k seems really low on L-88 verts. The metal cars looked very strong. One 69 yenko brought about 80k less than the other too??

The two L88 Corvettes are the ones that Mecum ran through as a pair for quite a while. They loose their luster after going through a dozen auctions.

Wow! As a kid, watched our red/white Honda Z50 catch fire and burn. The gas tank developed a hole in it and began to leak. And that was that.

My brother and I shared it. I would imagine myself as a Trial rider in the woods. See how long I could crawl over things without putting my foot on the ground.

After the Z50 burned, we acquired a couple of used Trail 70s. A gold and blue one. Traded the Hondas off when we stepped up to some Yamaha MX bikes.

I evaluated 8 Musclecar City cars for myself and others. Only 1 was a decent car. Lots of re-pop trim tags & bad re-stamps. They really need to hire inspectors to more accurately describe the cars (like BJ). I feel badly for all of the successful bidders who got way less than what they thought they were getting based on the auction descriptions. Hard to believe that bidders are so cavalier with their money though. One ‘66 427/425 Corvette had so much grime on the stamp pad that it couldn’t be read. Up until the car went on the block - no one bothered to even wipe off the pad!

I was just talking to Bill about that, wondering if Mecum offered any inspection services like BJ does, with so many fake tags going across the block for big money. Apparently they don't. The buyers don't care?
