1966 Chevelle Question
Did Chevy ever offer a small block SS Chevelle in 1966? I know there were Malibu SS small block cars, and I remember that Charley had a 1966 Malibu SS, but I thought that it was a Canadian car.

For 1966 it was the Chevelle SS396 until 1970 when the SS454 was added. Then in 1971 it became an appearance package (Chevelle SS) with the 350 an available option Last edited by Lee Stewart; 12-28-2020 at 11:00 PM. Reason: correct 1971 |

As said 1966 thru 1970 SS cars were ALL big block only.
The L65 and L48 350 engines became available in an SS package starting in 1971.

To clarify, all US '66 Chevelle Super Sports (138 VIN) were 396 engine.
Canadian market '66 Chevelle Malibu SS (136 VIN), like the one Charlie had, the 396 was an engine option, over and above the Malibu SS trim option. Likely more common to have a 283 or 327 engine. Nice thing about the Canadian cars, the engine/trans code was stamped on the cowl tag. Bill W |

Thanks for the info. Someone posted some different info about 1966 and said that you could get a Malibu SS but I thought it was only in Canada.
