Fantastic 67! My favorite year, as in my opinion you cannot beat the vent windows! Astro Ventilation, blah!

Yes I changed the freeze plug that day and no more leak. I actually found a bunch of freeze plugs in a drawer in my toolbox

Charley noted that the car may have been damaged before delivery and got a new quarter panel and windshield? Maybe the dealer repaint could explain the stripe?

Yes, I read about the quarter panel and door, but it looks like the front end was repainted also given the way the stripe was done. I thought I had read that it was original paint in the old thread on the car - maybe I am confusing this car with another that I read about. Regardless, a very cool piece!

The car is wearing the same paint from when it was purchased new. But, as mentioned earlier, there is evidence of repair by the original dealer like the stripe on the passenger side front fender. The build date on the trim tag is 01E but the sale date is 9/21/67 so something happened to prevent the car from selling for 9 months. Pat (the original owner little old lady) told me she saw the car in the front window of the dealership as she went by every day and couldn't resist buying it. By late September, the 1968 models would have been out for several weeks so I think the dealer made an effort to repair and promote the car to get it sold. Pat didn't know if it was a 67 or 68, she just liked the sporty black car in the window. |

Hi Denis,
Hope you are doing well. Thanks for the details. Maybe the dealer used it as a demo or something and they had a mishap? Regardless, very cool car that I would love to own! Not many unmolested SS's around anymore. In fact, I can't even remember the last one that I saw for sale. Seems there are more 67 Z's for sale than SS's these days. Interesting note...one of the Canadian 67 Festival Cars (similar to Indy Pace Cars) was painted Blue before selling because it sat on the lot in white with no buyers for close to a year... Take care, Mark
