That, my friend, appears to me to be an original factory "grind out" of the pad. When they made an error, the assembly line workers had access to what must have been a BIG grinder that would take the mistaken information off the pad and then hit the pad with the correct information. I have many, many in my files and they all have similarities. I would "embrace" this difference as I feel confident it is original.

If you order the Shipping Data Report, I wouldn't be surprised if this car was ordered by Hory Chevrolet in New York. They had a minimum order of 50 black 1973 Corvettes, one was owned by a good friend about 12 years ago.

Tim, thank you. I have ordered the paper work from NCRS for it. James has been told it was probably ordered from Hory. The NCRS judge also stated it was a factory grind out. We will know more when we (My brother) gets his hands on it.

I believe that Mike's 71 LT1 with Original Black Paint - also has the ordering paperwork from GM overseas and his also says SPECIAL on the TT.

There is another Black 73 with SPECIAL on the tag built C03
This L82 was built C11
Good info but just to clarify, Mike's Original Paint Black LT1 has SPC on the TT.
Below is a pic of his tag he posted in the other thread...

I was thinking it was SPEC too Bill and looking back, was surprised it was actually SPC w/ no E.
Do you know of any w/ SPEC on the tag as that'd be three different styles if so?

just to add to the confusion... here is another October 1972 built black Corvette which is original paint -
The Window sticker code for special paint is stamped on the TT.

Rumor has it that the FORD racer Kolb is the one who ordered the cars, Ford wouldn't let him have a dealership at 28 years old so he went to a small NY chevrolet dealer and made them the number 2 sales in a few years for the state of NY, Chevrolet asked him what he needed from them to help him sell more cars... and he said 50 corvettes...
