Mikey, I tried to take a photo with one of those Yunko's burning out but realized all the smoke was coming from the clutch...
I hope he's fixed it by now

Charlie nice score. YES that's 1 of 499 Malibu SS with the A51 396/360Hp motors. When I was looking around for "CANADIAN" (Beaumonts or Acadians) only cars, I came across another '66 Malibu SS factory 396 car. Up till late 2017 I never knew of the BB Malibu SS were available and CND only?

I got this off a guy who has had his for many many years and here's some info from him:

"You may know this but Canadian built 66 and very early 67 Malibu SS cars were different / trim options etc than US production mid 67 forward exactly same as US cars the A51 option on the reg 136 2 dr htp or vert Malibu got you bucket seats console ribbed rockers , argent or black rear valance and Malibu SS emblems on qtr otherwise car same as std Malibu Any engine was available 6, 283,327 and only one version of 396 the L34 360hp packaged with M20 373 posi 12 bolt and the F40 susp Power Brakes ....... after that you could add other options they built 499 A51 L34 cars
Mine is built that way with only tach and gauge package radio tinted windshield etc"

"No sites specific to cdn cars Dale McIntosh 66 CD has some info some of it from my car you may see info from me here on TC back a few yrs ago but basically all you need to look for is the trim tag on the firewall ( Canadian cars will have body color firewall and underhood not flat black like US cars ) no CDN 138 cars in 66 all cpupes and verts are 136 Malibu's The A51 option turns it into the Malibu SS so if you look on trim tag along the bottom it will say A51 L34 M20 if it a 396 car that will confirm it a BB car lots of A51 cars built with 6 cyl and or SB

CDN A51 L34 cars came std with 3.73 posi rear and M20 US cars were 3.31
NO cdn A51 L34 had the bump hood and or Supersport emblems on qtr and or dash but lots add that to cdn cars other small differnces but the trim tag the key and of course once you have a vin GM Canada Heritage services can sell you the original build sheet"

I hope what I was told is correct. And if so, others can use it to also increase there knowledge base, like I "think" (lol) I have.

John

Are you saying my car should not have the SS on the quarter ? Nice hearing that the body color firewall is correct.

NO not at all, your car SHOULD have MALIBU SS on the rear quarters. 3rd line in the first paragraph states:

"argent or black rear valance and Malibu SS emblems on qtr otherwise car same as std Malibu"

Thought maybe my info would help clear up some stuff, like the firewall, that's all.

On another note, off topic. Charlie since you were there, I was looking online and seen T58, 1966 Chevelle SS 396, Blue numbers matching engine, auto with black int, sold for $31,900.00????? That's seems low for that car and it had a dealer-installed, but non functioning AC unit??

Know or see this car? Wondering why such a low price?

John
