Default LS6 in a 1 ton 4x4 pickup application?

Thinking about purchasing a 1980 K30 pickup to have some fun with and restore some day. I've always wanted to have a truck with a high performance engine for some enjoyable running around. Truck currently has a GM 454 crate engine. TH400 trans and 4.10 gears. Would a 454 built to LS6 specs be too volatile for a 6000 pound truck? I know an LS5 would make more practical sense, just wanted to see what the thoughts were from the guys who have had 6's in Chevelles and El Caminos.

Thanks!

RW

The heavier the vehicle, the more likely you will have detonation issues.

i wouldnt worry about logic...i would consider the torture you could induce to the truck...it would be awesome..
