Default Trailer Floor Restoration/ Paint

Hi All,

Dan and are looking to repaint the floor of our enclosed trailer.

The floor has some big oil stains (from the previous owner) and we're looking for the best way to get rid of them. Right now the plan is to give the floor a light scuff by sanding with 180 grit. We did a small test area with our DA sander and it actually came out better than expected.

Post sanding, does anyone have any recommendations to prep the plywood or seal it? Then onto paint options. Any recommendations here? We want something durable that will last.

Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences!

Best,
Dave

I used a oil based gray "Floor" paint from Sherwin -Williams. It soaked it up like a sponge. They (SW) said it wasn't the best option, but so far it's held up ok. I didn't want to go crazy, and there actually weren't many other paint options.

Good choice using oil base if you can get it, I hate latex, garbage.
I did my floor years ago and it is holding up well. Used a gallon each of black and white Rustoleum to make gray. My trailer is not a show piece.

Thanks Guys.

I recently painted the roof with Rustoleum gray paint which has a rust inhibitor in it. It laid well and I like the color (not like you can see it). I'm thinking I'll get the same color without the rust inhibitor for the floor. Oil based, lays well, I'm sure durable after a quick sand and apply.

Thanks,
Dave

I used Rustoleum in black for my trailer floor 15 years ago and haven't had any problems with it. It really soaked into the wood and looks great.
