1967 L88 Baldwin Motion Crate Motor with Doc's
I hope this is the correct place to be talking about this? Anyways, I am a Camaro collector that got a call the other day from a friend that said he wanted to sell me his REAL DEAL 1967 L88 Crate motor that he bought brand new from Motion Performance in 1967! He said he has the original work order paperwork, as well as the complete motor sitting in his basement! I have all the numbers off the motor to include the very rare aluminum heads intake, Motion add on's cam, pistons etc... What I want to know is what this thing is worth? It was in a car in the 70's for a short time and then taken out and put away for storage. "The motor was put away the correct way!" Any help would be greatly appreciated! J

Re: 1967 L88 Baldwin Motion Crate Motor with Doc's
Being a genuine Motion engine w/ paper is something yes but what Joel started from may have a larger impact on value?!
If he bought an L88 block from GM or built the engine to L88 specs from a lesser HP block, what stampings it has may make it more valuable than the whole thing is worth as a Motion engine?. What I'm getting at is if a '67 3904351 casting I believe that's pre CE so again the stamping is very important!. An original IT Suffix stamped '67 L88 block and especially if Vinless would be worth very serious dough to the 'Vette boys alone...plus the value of the balance of the parts!. Re: 1967 L88 Baldwin Motion Crate Motor with Doc's
The block is a 351 casting. The date code is C 31 7. The aluminum heads are dated 66 October and november. The carb is the Motion/Holley three bbl. I have more info if it helps? Thanks for your thoughts! J

Re: 1967 L88 Baldwin Motion Crate Motor with Doc's
As Pete wrote, if it has the Tonawanda build date stamped on it with the IT (T0415IT for example) that would help. The red/red '67 L88 coupe has an original IT code over the counter block in it and the owner paid lots for it in the early 90's.
The value would be less with a blank pad, but it would still be valuable. |

Re: 1967 L88 Baldwin Motion Crate Motor with Doc's
Just curious but wasnt there a guy a few months ago claiming to have found a motor similar to this and even had a very like story connected to it but turned out to be a line of bs? I wouldnt want to see anyone get burned. Just seems too coincidental. It had a blank stamp pad too and the guy thought because of that he was gonna be rich or had found the holy grail.Im not doubting you have the engine and I hope for your sake it is real. Major nice find if it is

Re: 1967 L88 Baldwin Motion Crate Motor with Doc's
I owned one of these L88's a few years ago. Found out that there were a total of 277 made in `67. Being a complete original L88 with the stamped IT code, the value was $15-20K at the time.
I wouldn't know what the Motion mods would do to the price. |

Thank you all for your information! The motor is 100% real, that I know for sure. The actual value is still a question for me, It seems that if you have a "real" 1967 L88 Corvette or a 1967 Motion car in need of an original motor the sky is the limit. Thanks again, J

Re: 1967 L88 Baldwin Motion Crate Motor with Doc's
So yes it's got the original Tonawanda build/suffix stamp and no Vin?.
If so Wow and no doubt an exciting find but how the casting and engine build dates jive w/ any L88 'Vette cars in need should have an impact on the value.. ~ Pete

Re: 1967 L88 Baldwin Motion Crate Motor with Doc's
I still don't understand if it has the build date on the pad like the picture above. That is a major plus if it does.
Does it have the build date stamp on it? |

here's a 1968 version on eBay now ( I know the '67 pulls a bit more $$$ freight)
