Gene Marmor was a local stock car legend. He race at Chicago's Soldier Field when they raced stock cars there. His shop was well known for working on race cars and performance cars. The very First NicKey Chicago shop I had opened was in Gene's former shop. I rented from him. Very interesting Character. The shop was just South of Thatcher and Grand in River Grove at 2627 Thatcher. Not far from Gene & Judes Hot Dogs. https://speedsport.com/racing-nation...ene-marmor-87/ http://www.kalracing.com/Autoracing/Gene_Marmor_Bio.htm Last edited by Stefano; 01-07-2021 at 11:47 PM. |

Great update Stefano, very cool you knew Gene also had your shop location there. Here's an 04/79 CA ad for a '69 Nickey 427 Nova, sounds like an L72 w/ 4-Spd. and 4:88's. Ad notes a White car w/ Blk. also CA Plate WWX-416, anyone ever know of any real White '69 Nickey Novas existing then/now also if any possibility of gaining full VINs from CA Dept. of Vehicles by providing old Plate #'s + VINs missing last 6? Strange how known car guy ads are mixed in w/ these Nickey cars but note bottom ad for a '69 'Runner w/ two engines, is this Art Carr the tranny guy? ~ Pete .

The Orange Country Register was the paper I used to work for in high school. I don't remember any Nickey prepared 427 Novas in the area. I would have most likely seen it out and about-as I had my big block Nova back then as well-in the same time frame. Kinda cool to know there was one in the area! With the license plate being WWX-416-it had to be registered around 1969 in SoCal (maybe the owner worked MCAS El Toro?)....as my brother's 1967 RS/SS was plate UEY673 and registered 3/1967 in Fullerton, Ca. This was the original registration for the Camaro.
