Default 69 512 ce block question

hi i am going to look at a 512 ce block with internals in the next few days, i was wondering besides the ce designation if there was anything else i could check to make sure it is an l72 by any other stampings?? he said it is a june date.

If I remember correct look at the last three letters CRR was LS6 I rember, cant the rest.... I would like to know half I have forgot...

you could also check the part numbers on the internals...crank and piston numbers...if it's standard bore it's probably more likely that those were the original internals than if it has already been bored over...
If it's got a cam you may be able to check out the number on that also...

The CE (Chevrolet Engine) block won't have the engine code. There is no way to know for sure that it was/is a L-72 but if it is a 4 bolt main block there is a good chance that it is.

If it is a 4 bolt main motor it will have 2 large plugs not one by the oil filter

If the short is original, should also see dimple rods and crossdrilled crank

The good 512 block will also have the holes above the oil filter flange drilled and pipe plugged for an external oil cooler. Ours is. With 40 year old engines, a lot of things may have been changed over the years. Check carefully.
