Big Block Question
I have 2 stupid rookie questions. I'm looking at purchasing a Nova that the drivetrain is removed from (engine, trans, and rear). The owner is stating that the Heater Core is for a big block and that it has a 3/8" fuel line. My questions are, how can i verify that by looking at the core (what should i look for to tell if it's a big block core) and are there any other indicators i can look at to verify that it was once a big block that was in the car? The VIN is no help, though it does code to a V8. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a rallye green '69, v/t, 3moldings, buckets, no console, deluxe interior, etc... from Maryland! This topic/car has been discussed at length here on another post. Can somebody post a link?
As for your two specific questions. The heater core itself does not indicate BB or SB, you simply install it in the opposite direction for a BB. The heater box cover is also the same except for the two holes in the middle (which can be drilled, or avail repro). The 3/8 line was also a common switch back in the day when somebody souped their engine up. So, neither of these two items can be relied upon to determine BB vs. SB. If the trans crossmember is still there, check the trans mount opening. BB and SB's had different openings. M

you're psychic. sorry, i should have searched the site. I check here every few weeks, but, i've never posted before. sorry about that. Looks like not much was found other than the trans crossmember indicated a small block. Thanks for the help.

I had a hunch that you were inquiring about that car! There are more pics of it on Will's site.
I just noticed that the quarter panels that are with the car are not for '68-69, but rather '70-'72. So, that means that you can't use them unless you weld up the marker hole and relocate it to the proper location (and size) for the '69 style. Not a bad car, had some nice options when it was new, they could be pricey to find/restore/reinstall today though. Muncie's, 12 bolts, and NOS trim items aren't cheap [img]/ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif[/img]

Yeah, i figured. I'm looking for a long term project (i have been looking for a long time) 62-72 Nova (SS preferably). unfortunately, money IS an object in this case, heh-heh. anyway, thanks for the advice and all.
