Default Helmet sizes?

Hat sizes are usually given as 7-1/2 or 7-3/4 for example, but helmet sizes all seem to be S, M, L & XL. Does anyone know what sizes equal what?
I need to buy a helmet.

I think the sizes vary per manufacturer. I myself am a 7 3/4 inch fitted hat and need at least a 2XL helmet. I even have a 4XL snowmobile helmet.

Exactly, they're all different including models from the same manufacturer so physically trying them on necessary.
They need to fit loose enough for comfort but snug enough that w/ strap fastened, the helmet stays put when shaking your head quickly a few times left/right/left/right also up/down.
Also, don't cheap out as some look Ok but aren't and a good lid-skid important when you need it so best buck up and be safe.
Did you get a Atv/bike/snow machine for Christmas Verne?

Nope. I need to get ready for the Pure Stock drags in Stanton this Sept. I'm hoping this thing will be done before then.

Congrats Verne. Keep us posted.

I never had any luck with any helmet I could not try on.

I was going to cheap out and get one from ebay. I don't think I'll use it much anymore. Besides, if it doesn't run quicker than 14.00, I won't even need one. I thought I'd get one anyway just in case I get lucky.

Hey Verne - how about some more pictures? Love the Nassau Blue 62 409's - although we are a bit partial ourselves......

More pics might come later. It hasn't been worked on for quite a while. I've been playing Mr. Mom around the house since my wife had back surgery in Oct. I did just get the doors aligned and the front fenders back on. All the little adjustments come next.

I did find a Bell helmet on ebay that lists a cross reference to hat sizes (for their brand).
