I passed on the car. He tried to pressure me into taking it because he had a Canadian buyer "ready to send money" I got home checked my savings balance and decided I better keep cash in the bank instead of another Camaro in the garage. Like Charley said, the best thing you could do is change the fluids, give it a good bath and enjoy it as is but I can't find the time to drive the ones I have as much as I would like. I am guessing $15K would barely get the paint/body done. 3X that for a full resto is probably accurate in our area. Will be a neat car for someone!

I guess the $15,000 quote for a restoration has gotta be sarcasm too.

I'd estimate about three times that, at a minimum.

I said $15,000 AND UP. I didn't have clairvoyance to assess what type of restoration he was contemplating, or what degree he was going to elevate the restoration.

Sorry I didn't make it clearer. Geezuz.

Just busting your chops there. No offense intended.

How I long for the days of the $15,000 restoration.

I think the last time I spent $15,000 on a restoration was 1985. And that was when I paid $5000 for the car - a 1-of-5 1971 440 Six-Barrel, four-speed Cuda ragtop with original drivetrain.

You can cue the Barbra Streisand "The Way We Were" soundtrack now, while I cry.

There was a '69 SS/RS 396, 350 hp car that crossed that block at the BJ auction in Vegas last night for $95k.
Kind of odd that it had Z/28 stripes and a ZL2 hood, especially with a low VIN #.
Car was fully optioned, AC and power everything, but that seemed like a lot of $$$ for that car.

A numbers matching SS396 car that runs and drives? You guys are ALL way low. Worth 15-20k easily, and THAT'S probably low too.

[/ QUOTE ]I purchased a complete original GM documented numbers matching car 396/325HP in April 08. Was not desperate for a low horse car but jumped on it for $20K. Car is far from perfect but is a pleasure to drive. Previous owner gave me all original parts he took off the car, including 3 XT rims (Looking for one more build date is 12B of car)
