Yes it was! The 1971 Advance Product Information booklet that Chrysler put out showed that the T/A & AAR were still being planned for 1971. There is a page in it that shows the new lighter weight wheel that was going to be used. It also shows that the 440-6 was going to still be available in the Sport Fury GT and that the Charger SE would be getting it as well.

These are the aluminum wheels that were going to be made an option in 1971. That's the Diamante Show Car.

As seen in this month's issue of Hemmings Motor News, Mercury's entire 1967 advertising campaign had the tagline "Mercury, A Man's Car".
