Default L78 Air Cleaner Assembly

Hi Guys, I was hoping for some information/help in determining what is the correct air cleaner base and top for a 1969 Camaro L78. I have seen so many variations of big block Chevrolet air cleaner assemblies. Some have different length breather tubes, tubes at different angles. And some with no breather tubes at all. Any advice or pictures of what would have come on my 1969 Camaro 396/375 hp originally? Thanks for any help. Rob

If the car was built with the SS hood, it would have the open-element air cleaner #6423907. Chrome lid, black base. Should have a vent tube that connects to an elbow in the RH rocker cover. The tube is capped with a flame arrestor. There were a variety of AC212CW element styles used, depends on when the car was built.

Z/28s also used #6423907, at least for part of '69 production. The problem you may be encountering is GMPD once serviced it with a generic unit that was furnished with a selection of tubes and plugs to adapt it for many applications.

If the car was built with the ZL2 ducted hood, it would have the air cleaner assembly that sealed to the hood.
