Default CHALLENGER QUESTIONS NEED QUICK HELPPPPPP

Hey guys I need some quick help being I'm trying to buy this car tomorrow morning...I just found this car tonight and he needs a decision by 10 am or he is posting the car for sale. 1971 Challenger it is manual brakes and I believe manual steering. The car is a 4 speed but not sure if original. I do not have the vin number as of yet. The car does have a console. The guy also says the 340 Engine is original to the car and he says the car is also an original scat pack. So I guess my questions are is there anyway to prove the engine is numbers matching? Trans? Also how do I tell if the car was an original 340 car and was all 340 cars R/T's ? Anyway to tell if car was a Scat Pack and what does Scat Pack mean? A lot of questions but please help guys..Thanks everyone

You need to supply a photo of many things here to get those questions answered.
Like the Vin Tag-Fender Tag-Motor & Trans Pads.
Seems like you don't have time on your side if your dead line is tomorrow morning at 10 AM.

Scat pack cars are part of the Performance Dodge Line up of all the R/T cars and a Dart Swinger that would all get the Scat Pack sticker on the quarter glass windows. all the scat pack cars for 1971 had a minimum of 340 cubic inches with 4 barrel carb all the way to a 426 Hemi.

If the car is in fact a Challenger R/T there should be a JS on the Vin Tag and Fender tag for starters.

Make sure it has a fendertag in place. The vin numbers are found on the dashpad, fendertag, engine pad, trans pad, drivers side of radiator cowl, top of the firewall cowl on drivers side near the cowl screen and the door decal. Vin or partial vin numbers should all match. The fendertag will tell all options eg E55 for the 340.
340 car will have the 8 3/4 axle. H code on the Vin for 340 [G 318] Im pretty sure all 340 cars were 4bble so they would have the bulged "R/T" hood. If the location allows, take your wireless internet, you can decode while your there.

"Scat Pack" was a marketing gimmick (and a good one at that!) across all Dodge performance cars. Did he mean "Track Pack" (Dana Rear, 3.54 gears). Good advice above - don't rush it - lots of pitfalls. Good luck!

He has to be talking Scat Pack (marketing) not Track Pack (Dana) NO 340 cars would come out of the factory with a Dana rear.
Dana rear would only be available with a 426 and larger 440 engine in all the car lines.

340's were available in JH (standard Challenger) and JS (Challenger R/T) in 1971. Did you ever get the VIN and fender tag info?

The above is correct.

For 1970, 340 cars were JH, but in 1971 they were both JH and JS.

FWIW, 1970 Challenger T/A is basically a JH with the T/A package, which isn't in the VIN, but if you look at the engine code you can tell that it's a T/A (assuming no funny stuff).
