If you pushed the clutch pedal when the trans was not engaged into the pilot bushing that the disc is likely no longer aligned properly. I’m sorry to hear it is fighting with you.

Ryan.....like I text you this morning, I had the exact issues you you’re having. I had my trans in and out 4-5 times this year. I had the plastic alignment tool and tried having my wife push the clutch in, I lifted up on the tool while tightening up the pressure plate.....nothing worked, other than bolting it up with a ratchet and then the disc will move in to place.

I purchased this alignment tool from Crash at MCACN last year and what a difference that made.....the trans slides right in to place with no issues!

In other words, try and find an old input shaft for an alignment tool.

Thanks Kurt I need a 27 spline shaft to use as an alignment tool.

I found that my pilot bushing had come out and was sitting on an angle which was stopping the trans install.

I need to fit a new one and use a circlip this time.

Oooof.

I need to keep rolling to be back on the road next week.

Glad to hear you were able to find the culprit.

Knowing the issue is more than half the battle.

I have to focus to ensure I don’t end up moving ahead with upgrades.... SFI flywheel, blow proof, HD clutch fork, heim join linkages, etc, etc. Not yet!!!

A few pictures.

I am pretty disappointed to see the wear on the clutch fork.... not sure how this occurred? Adjustment? Soft part?

Tenacity wins every time!!

I had a new pilot bushing made at 1.383” OD and added a circlip back to the crank groove. Then I reinstalled the clutch, PP, Bell, fork, and....... the transmission!!!!!

Reminder: Add oil.

I pushed in the clutch and there is no binding, I was concerned as I had to draw it in due to my poor alignment tool.

Reminder: buy used 27 Spline input shaft.

I am headed back to the road soon.

PS: this clutch fork has wear every point of contact and all were greased and it has a whopping 500 miles :-(

More time in the garage tonight.

I installed the speedo, driveshaft, crossmember, added oil, shifter installed and adjusted, adjusted the clutch a little bit.

Took it for a little test drive on the ramps and jack stands (she’s solid in the air and I didn’t make any hasty movements.

Trans sounded and acted and felt perfect. (Happy)

Note: I need to recheck oil after a little test drive.

Here is a funny one.

Look what I had on the shelf the whole time.

This was in a box of parts removed from my M20 during rebuild.

Live and learn.
