Cool update Mike and love to hear more about your car!
No doubt other factors to consider too but what you have sounds very special if original paint no matter what condition and any repaint may be regrettable?

FREAKING AWESOME... I would love to see some photos... I have always wanted a REAL BLACK LT1, if it had RED interior I would probably sell my house!

X10...
Many people thought this one should be repainted and restored as well... however it was Vintage Certified and even though the paint is THIN in some places it is still 90% original.

My 71 LT1 was dull and checked but after clay bar and tons of meguires number 7 it is glossy and it's mostly original.

I'll see if I can find some photos of it, or take some photos this weekend. The guy I purchased it from was in the Navy and stationed in Italy and ordered the car through the GM Overseas Distributors Corporation. He picked the car up at Oak Hill Motors in Eastchester, NY. For some reason GM wouldn't deliver the car to Syracuse? He kept all of the correspondence between GMODC and himself, which I still have.

The interior is Custom black leather. It would have been cool if it was red. For some reason he didn't order it with a radio? So it has the block off plate and obviously no antennae. I know I have photos of when we picked it up. I'll post when I find them. As far as the paint, there is at least one area that has to be sprayed because of serious peeling...the rest isn't great but its okay.

----Red leather would have been cool, but it wasn't available in 1971. Black leather from 70 t0 72 was called the "deluxe interior" and has many things beside leather included. Cut pile deluxe carpet and wood insert panels in the door panels for two. Saddle leather was the only other leather option. Leather in these years adds real value to any Corvette.....Bill S

Good thing is BLACK LACQUER is easy to touch up.

I told a few people at the NCRS show in Cincinnati about your car this weekend and there are quite a few LT1 guys who are extremely interested in seeing it...
