Looks like they might have cut the front section of the body off and secured it with some sort of latching mechanism.

It had a tilt front end. It had a straight front axle also for a short time. I still own the car.

It's retired from racing and has gone through many changes over the years but here is what it looks like now without it's engine and trans.
