I think that VIN stamp is wrong scale and font.

The AO Smith trim tag is about the biggest Red Flag you can have on a big block 1967 Corvette. It also answers the question about the legitimacy of the block.

Looks like the vin fonts arent even all the same size...Maybe its an LA car

Why do some people think that old ads and aftermarket catalogs put in clear plastic envelopes - and then displayed - constitute "documentation"?? I guess I keep underestimating the number of rich fools out there buying cars.

Reminds me of the supposed L-78 Chevelle I looked at,where the owner claimed it was documented.I took him for his word & showed up as he shows me late 1980's MIDAS Muffler receipts from having exhaust work done.I ask how is this authentic documentation?..he says where MIDAS wrote in on top what type of car it was,"1970 Chevelle SS"..... LOL,that alone was a moot point,plus they didn't even write in the engine size.Not that it would have even mattered.It later turned out to not even be an SS.

To expand upon what Tim said... for education purposes - in 1967, Chevrolet only produced the big block Corvette (in all engine forms 390/400/435/430) at St. Louis. Small blocks were produced in both plants (AO Smith and St. Louis), however, side pipes were only installed in St. Louis.

In 1966 big blocks were produced in both plants but side pipes would have been unique to St. Louis.

I agree with what Tim said about this Corvette. It is a clone.

To continue the education part: what do you mean by produced at AO Smith and in St Louis? Are you talking about the frame assembly? Or completed vehicles?

I am only aware of completed vehicles being built in St Louis.*

Beginning in 1964 AO Smith in Iona, MI was contracted to help build Corvette bodies due to high demand that the St. Louis plant couldn't keep up with. The completed and painted bodies with interiors were shipped to St. Louis by rail to be mated with chassis and engine to form a completed car. These AO Smith built bodies carried a trim tag with an A in front of the body number. St. Louis trim tags carried an S in front of the body number on the trim tag. As noted, for streamlining reasons, St. Louis was deemed the plant that built the bodies for cars ordered with side pipes and in 1967 St. Louis was deemed the plant that built bodies with the big block hood stripe. This is the very short answer.
