Any idea where on LI ?, there were pockets of street racing all over. If it was a well known car from the 60,70's specifically, it probably did time in the Brooklyn/Queens area (Connecting Hwy, Fountain Ave, Cross Bay Blvd etc.) That was a real street racing hot bed during that time, but started to fade in the 80's. Google up Connecting Hwy etc, you'll find bunch of stuff. Good luck with the search

There is a group of Facebook called NY 231/NY Drag Racing Past and Present, you should post it on there.

That's western Suffolk County. The street action was Deer Park Ave during that era. Cars would gather at Jack in the Box in Commack and drive down to Deer Park for matchups. Federal buildings didn't pop up in Central Islip until mid to late 90's. Islip Speedway was south of Central Islip in Islip. Mostly figure 8 but had 1/8 mile track. Closed in '84. GotGrunt is right. Check out that Rt 231 Facebook page. 231 is the route number for Deer Park Ave. Different names, same road mostly.

Just looking through facebook drag racing. Old dragways dragstrips My old boss use to race all over in the late 70's early 80's, use to go with him. Trying to remember the old strips that closed. We took a chunk of NY dragway? When it closed 1980???
