XT wheels.
Looking for some clarity on XT wheels please. Familiar with the ones with the K1 with year month and date that follows. I have some with only X on one side of the valve stem, and T on the other. Also ones with XT on one side of the valve stem. No other markings. These wheels appear to be a 68 build with NT (not Kelsey) in the center close to the stud holes. I like them because there IS no date, and can use them on different applications. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi. My old barn find 1969 SS396 Camaro came with two of the original XT rims. It was a December 68 build car from VN and had the X and T on either side of the valve stem hole too. We all figured they were original too as they’d never been separated from the car and I bought it from the OO, they still has the original code 71 paint on them too. It was always a race car that had never been titled for the street until I did in 2007. Also had the broadcast and chassis sheets. I’ve got photos of the wheel stamps somewhere I think.
Cheers, Anthony. |

Thanks Anthony. Were the XT wheels standard fare on big block cars of 69? What about 68?

Hi again. As far as I know, in 1969, the standard Camaro SS steel (non rally) wheel was the 14x7 XT. it was also the COPO wheel too. In 1968, I believe it was the 14x6 XF.

XT wheels
There is no K1 on a couple rims and XT’s are different on both. One has the X on one side of the valve stem, and T on the other. That is all the markings on the outside of the wheel.

The NT or NI stamp on those wheels stands for Norris Technologies/Norris Industries, a division of Masco Industries. They had plants in Brea California and Cambridge Ontario, Canada, and were still in operation at least thru 1987 in California.
