Poplar Grove, IL fly in
We made a last minute decision to stop by the local Lion's Club pancake breakfast/fly in for breakfast yesterday at the small private airport next to our subdivision and ended up seeing some neat old cars show up.

Oh yeah - some neat old airplanes as well...the engine shop in the hangar where the pancake breakfast was being held was open for tours. They rebuild about 225 engines a year here. Shop was pretty impressive. Clean and tidy.

I have flown in there in my 1946 Piper Cub. Great airport with long grass strip, great people and plenty of antique airplanes to watch fly!

Lots of Cubs within the community. My son was fortunate to be able to co-pilot a few when he was younger. Any given summer weekend is like an air show. We live in line with the landing pattern of the grass runway and frequently have many airplanes directly above us at a pretty low altitude. |
