Distributor Rebuild
Can someone help me please. I belive that I need to rebuild the distributor in my 1967 Chevelle 327. Specifically, I'm trying to find someplace that stocks the replacement shaft bushing for a stock distributor.

What makes you think you need to rebuild? Symptoms? Is it a stock distributor that originally came with the car? If you have a part # the part should be available - at least on ebay.

Completed the car last week and finally got it out driving. Original distributor was convereted with a mallory kit. When the driving the car it occassionally sputters or sounds like it misses and lugs. Also, the tach flutters when this is happening. These items just seem linked to the ignition and distributor to me.
Since everything else is new and the distributor is 44 years old, it seems like a good place to start. I didn't do anything to it, but clean it up during the restoration of the car. I'm open to suggestions for other places to look though. Blair

I recommend Harvey Edelstein here in Glen Ellyn Il. 630-469-6747.
Harvey offers a distributor rebuilding service for point distributors as well as unitized and transistorized ignition systems.He also stocks many GM distributors by original equipment part numbers,which he sells on an if he has,then exchange basis for it only. |

Are you saying that the distributor is a Mallory (which model, dual point, vac advance,etc.?) or does it have some internal Mallory pieces on a stock GM distributor? What coil are you using? Mallory parts are fairly readily available and it is a relatively simple process to rebuild one.

Stock housing, shaft, cam, advance, vaccum module, etc... Mallory electronic conversion kit.

Trying simple things first, like disconnecting the tach and see what happens. I had something similar happen a few years ago and it was the tach causing the problem. It's the old K.I.S.S. system.

Chevelleless after 46 years......but we did find a low mileage, six speed, silver 2005 Corvette. It will just have to do for now. |
