Default '65 Malibu Convertible, Amazing Paint

I can't tell if this paint job is 40 years old, or recent.... The modern speed parts have me wondering.

If it's recent, I would be amazed there are guys out there who still know how to spray these paint jobs....

I love watching Joe Martin spray his paint jobs on the iron resurrection show. I like his wife also.

As a kid growing up with an artistic bent, that is what I dreamed of doing for a living - custom paint jobs. Life didn't turn out that way, however...

Perhaps it's for the best.

All of the painters I know are either dead, or have a host of health issues related to handling and breathing all of the chemicals back in the day, before person protective equipment was widely accepted.

This car is local to me - I thought I recognized it from a show last year. The paint looks to me like it's in too nice of shape not to be a recent paint job. Back in the day they used lacquer for those types of paint jobs, and after 30-40 years it would probably be showing a lot of crazing and cracking at this point. In any case, it's a very well executed ride.

And FWIW, the "outlining" techniques used on most of the panels on this car are relatively straightforward for a good custom painter to execute. The tricky ones are the ones that incorporate lace and other patterns, drop shadows, realistic flames, and other intricate details. Still pretty cool in an old-school kind of way.
