boss 351
Looking for a ballpark figure on the value of a Boss351,white, numbers matching, paperwork with owner history, minor paint touchup, no rust. Motor has been rebuilt. Odometer shows 40-60 thousand. Going off 2nd hand info.
Thanks, Joe

Re: boss 351
Anyone here ever drive one of these Boss 351 Mustangs. Just wondering how they were in the performance dept. Back in the day I street raced a 69 Mustang with a 351 Clevland with my 70 L78 Chevelle. That Mustang surprised the hell out of me.

Re: boss 351
Frank, the Cleveland didn't come out till '70. It's been my observation that the heads were a bit too much for a showroom stock car, but the '71 Boss 351 had everything work together just right. Maybe someone who owned one will be able to chime in and say if that's accurate.

Re: boss 351
I've driven two low mile, original owner stockers. Grew up a block and a half away from one of them; I've known both cars since I was old enough to walk. A Boss 351 with a sharp tune-up is an animal in stock form.
I'll put it this way. If I was lining up next to a solid lifter big block Chevy or Street Hemi car, I'd pick a Boss 351 before a 428 Cobra Jet, Boss 429, or any other Mustang from that era. At least in stock or near stock form.

Re: boss 351
Two good buddies of mine here in town own a boss 351 and the other a boss 429.They constantly bicker back and forth as to who’s car held better numbers…..Apparently the boss 351 had better ¼ mile times then the boss 429! That’s ok….I’ll take the slower car.

Re: boss 351
The Boss 351 is a perfect combo of performance, handling and comfort. A 1 year wonder, that was and still is an overlooked car. Much like the 70 429scj Cobras, great performance at bargain prices.

Re: boss 351
A matching numbers complete and correct show car will bring 60-65k . A very nice looking car with a non matching B351 engine will bring 25-35k.But remember this is a one year only car. Good parts are scarce , rev limiter, exhaust manifolds, harmonic balancer, distributor are high dollar parts. The correct carb is a 3k part restored. This is a car that will run low 13's stock with a good tune up.

Re: boss 351
I've never driven one, but I have most definitely taken a ride in one....
Back in 71, a good friend's brother-in-law was working for Ford Motor Co. powertrain engineering dept in Detroit. He drove back to IL (where I lived at the time) in a silver 71 Boss 351 that had some 'special enhancements' performed by him and some co-workers. That car was SCARY fast
