Freddie,

The bracket is used to hold wiring which goes down to the starter and bolts to the back of the block in between the block and the bell housing.

Wouldn't that would cause the bell to crack from trying to bend around the tab ??
The pic seems to indicate marks from the bellhousing bolt being tightened against it.

The bracket goes under the head of the upper bell housing bolt and folds over to secure the wiring. My 68 had one on it but not sure this was used beyond 68? A hard to find part and often discarded.

I can see that clip, mentioned as part of the harness, in the 68 AIM under UPC 12 A11. Along with the clip that clamps over the starter.
