Default Beware of this

Going to a cruise in today and thought I’d better check the air in my spare, don’t recall ever doing it as you’ll see.
I bought this original spare Firestone Super Sport wheel n tire off a 67 Camaro at a Super Chevy swap meet in Indy 1995. Can’t remember the last time I had it out of the car. Upside down laying on the jack pole it has made these impressions in the tire!!! They’ll never come out I don’t think. Check yours!

Very common on the tire surface that’s pulled down onto the jack stem and lug wrench.

Yours is one of the worst I’ve seen, but that’s how it was designed.

I’d make sure you have plenty of air in that spare to help prevent those impressions.

A Red Line spare that I took out of a trunk 40+ years ago is still showing impressions on opposite sides of the tire from the jack stem.

I also have original spares indented similar, although none as deep as Richard's. Lesson here is keep it fully inflated and don't crank down the wing nut!

LOVE seeing these original, '67 only style, Wide Ovals!!

Bring the pressure up to 32# and lay it in the hot sun during the day. The depressions may get better.

Same thing happen to my SportCar 200 spare Rich, but not as bad. When you reinstalled the tire, just put a small piece of cardboard between the tire and jack. That's what i did, it should help.

Default Tips

Thanks for the tips on this matter guys I appreciate it. I had it cranked down with a lot of pressure on it, that’s probably one of the n main factors to what happened. I’ll back that off today n put something between the jack pole.
Too a few picks of the tire while I had it one to share with all. The tread on it doesn’t look anything like the repop tires of today. Hope others read this and it doesn’t happen to their spare.
