Default freedom battery

just finishing a restoration of a COPO camaro and understand that with my build date of June, a freedom side post battery and cables should be installed , the only situation a top post style would be used is if the HD 63 Amp. alternator option selected.

Does anyone have info on this topic and/or where to source these, i'm tryting my local GM dealer as it said in a previous post that GM had not licenced the battery out to anyone

Not exactly.

K79 [42 amp] and K85 [63 amp] alternators were not available with mechanical lifter engines. If the car was built with the T60 heavy-duty battery it would have been a top-post.

ok, it doesn't have the U60 option listed on the GM of Canada documents so that means side post as i read in the McNeish book?

Correct. It would have been built with a Delco R79 side-terminal battery.

William is correct . The correct battery is an R79 Delco Energizer. I was under the impression that Freedom Batteries were introduced in 1976?
Here's what the correct battery for your COPO looks like.

Low power battery. Might start a six cylinder car.
