With all the repairs this block needs, what's it worth?

I would have a hard time paying more than 500.00 for it. Needs a bunch of work and when you are done you have a outdated block that looks cool but never came in a car. It would be cool to have on display but that is about it.

I need to meet the machine shop owner that can do all those repairs "inexpensively"....sleeving and boring a ZL1 block alone costs 1200.00 or more[parts and labor],and thats on a block that doesnt need weld repairs.......

how do you guys know this engine never was in a Yenko? or ZL-1?

I don't think Yenko sold those blocks until mid 70s so don't know what Yenko car they could have been installed in other then a custom built race car. Yenko did race a ZL1 engine 69 Camaro in 1970 but I believe it was a block from GM.

I think these blocks were used in boats I know of one in Des Moines,Ia also he thinks it's worth a ton.

met a guy in reno that wanted 18k for his also had it on ebay for the same price don't think it ever sold i agree with Charley 500 bucks build it and race it [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif[/img]

Chuck...Ive seen several of these blocks over the years and the majority of these all seemed to have experienced some sort of fatigue thus resulting in neccessary repairs. I believe back then that most people who got there hands on one of these ran them! For those that have lasted without damage, I think were not used as often. I for one am in the thought that if you personally choose to run one of these and can have it fixed , go for it! It's not always the cheapest form of Nostalgia but if the ZL1 is the desired appearance, I suppose the costs will reflect the owners desire to run it! Ive had 2; one that cracked around the lifter galleys(prior owner to me) and another that thru a rod. I agree with you though, the costs to repair these are significant! The one i have had been repaired and new sleeves put in it payed 1200 about 10-12 years ago it checked out ok had it pressure tested so far so good have to see what it does when i fire it up we put a stroker crank with very little grinding it kinda looks like it was made for it
