Default Optimizing a 1969 Z-28 302 ?

My old friend Hans is doing some work on his Z-28 this winter. Last summer he installed the restored carb that he bought from Eric, and now he wants to get the timing setting, dwell angle etc optimized.
So the question is: what settings are you guys using on your stock 302 engines ?

Check out John Zs article over on camaros.org on setting up a 302. I have used it on my 68 z for a couple of years and it works flawless . He has a unique vacuum advance setup.

Also, I have my total advance set to 38 degrees before TDC.

Have the distributor done on the machine with a new curve setting. I like Mike t's settings. mine are 30 for the dwell and around 12 degrees on the crank at idle and about 38 total at 2,800 rpm's or so. I run no vacuum advance but some guys differ in that department. I also like the valves adjusted tight.

I agree with Sam, I don't like vacuum advance either, I haven't used it since early 1970 with no problems at all,
as per the CRG report, I set my valves at .026 on intake & exhaust, runs and sounds great.
I use AC R 43 plugs gapped at .040. with the original heads.
I hope you find this helpful.
