My friend Jim Webb from Sherman Oaks is the person who had it up to a few years ago when he passed away. George Lyons got it from Jim's estate along with five other cars of Jim's. Jim Webb had always admired this car from when he first saw it at the Super Chevy show and subsequently in the magazine article. He was the one who added the headrests and maybe a couple of other options. He always liked the high option cars and had acquired a lot of rare and desirable stuff out of cars in the salvage yards back when that was still possible.

Yeah, if you zoom in on the pictures you can see a lot of checking and fading of the original lacquer. And there is a large area on the hood where it looks like someone was wheeling it out and went completely through the paint. But the car is very straight and rust free. Would be a relatively easy repaint.

A buddy of mine sent me this photo of the car taken back in the early 80s when Jim owned it. Taken in another friend's driveway. Love the yellow plug wires and note the rally wheels. Can't really tell for sure, but looks like the air cleaner lid may be black.

Thanks for posting the pic!

Such an iconic 1st Gen with that unforgettable Super Chevy cover. It’s hard to believe that this was only a 14-year old car when that was published!

If I weren't about to start the restoration of 67 L78 I would have bidded on this car. Very nice. I noticed the trim tag does not have the Y code for the headrest seats and the earlier magazine pics do not show them either. But still a very nice car.

Look at the comments

The car hasn't changed a whole lot since 1981. I always wondered if the black air cleaner lid with the 396 was correct (Shown in the magazine photos)...or if it should have been chrome...like my brothers?

Granted, we bought the Air cleaner and wheel well molding at Cone Chevrolet in 1979/1980...and all were pretty cheap with my discount for working at Hardin Olds...
Bruce, my high school buddy bought an L35 '67 from the original lady owner in 1979 and it had a black air cleaner lid. (Open element.) She told him the original had been stolen and that the black one was a dealer replacement. Not sure if the original was black or chrome. (He still has the car, with a crate 1986 LS7, M-22 and Centerlines.)
