Charley , I also am fortunate to have a 396 BB 4 speed rag Malibu SS a sort of twin car to you , except mine is Tropic Turquoise, and mine came down the production line about 2 months before yours in March of 66. Also a Calgary Alberta car. I got the tach, but no Power Steering... a real good friend of Helmut and I , restored the car for me about 10 years ago , Al Shannon.....
Give me a call sometime if you want to chat , but these are super rare as you know and unique in a Canadian sort of way EH ?

Many differences between the US version and Canadian versions of these 66 Chevelles. Many a good cars missed out on because people assume the car is a Fake or Restored improperly from a DETAIL standpoint. Many of the things mentioned already here. From body color firewall and Underside of hood to trunks. Rear Panel Accent color, even the VIN not being stamped on the deck pad as we look for on the US version. Plum was only offered in 67 US Versions. The list goes on and on!! Though I do believe it needs a correct 66 tar top battery as that is a 67 battery. Very nice car. Enjoy!!

Mike

Yes, there are a whole lot of subtle differences on these Canadian Malibu's as Mike mentioned. Then there are the Canadian Beaumonts, which share the basic Chevelle body and drivetrain along with those subtle Canadian differences, but also are unique in that they have a different grille, taillights, and carry a few Pontiac features like the GTO dash.

The underside of the hood was definitely painted black on the 1966/67 Beaumonts, not body colour, and I believe Canadian Malibu's were black on the underside of the hood as well. The underside of Charley's '66 Malibu SS hood looks correct to me. The inside and floor of the trunk all ought to be body colour.
