Default Sun Tach

So I am going to vent a bit. During the build of the Nova, I have ordered parts -- seems like forever. After engine was installed and fired it seemed like the SST802R Sun Super Tach II was reading slow. (I can tell when an engine is idling faster than 500 RPM). Setting the timing with a pretty nice timing light that also has a tach function ... the timing light tach was indicating right a 950 RPM. So I said OK ... tach is FUBAR and I'm not dealing with it now.

So earlier this week I started to really look at this tach issue and noticed that when the ignition sw was turned on the tach did not "zero" but indicated a point approx 3/8" below the zero marking. I know darn well it is too late to remove tach, contact seller and attempt to return it as defective -- so I took it apart to see if anything was apparent to cause the low reading.

Bottom line -- as per internal makings, it is apparent the tach was made in China and whoever installed the needle on the shaft must have been in a hurry ... it was misaligned with the zero scale. Using a needle nose pliers I clamped onto the shaft and carefully rotated need back to zero position ... applied 12V and tach zeros with power on.

Cannot reassemble tach to it's original configuration as I had to "uncrimp" housing to disassemble.

End of story -- I am done venting and feel much better ... but beware of buying anything made in China ... even iconic Sun Tachometers ...
