Some interesting facts about the Montauk Point Lighthouse:

1. It was the first lighthouse built in NY state
2. It is the fourth-oldest active lighthouse in the United States.
3. It was the first public works project of the new United States.
4. Looking at the photo above, the erosion of Turtle Hill since the lighthouse was built has been severe. Originally the lighthouse was 300 feet from the edge. Now it is 100 feet.

The top prize for “The World Most Venomous Animal,” would go to the Box Jelly (biologists have dropped the “fish” from “jellyfish” as it is a misnomer). It has caused at least 5,567 recorded deaths since 1954.
