Some interesting facts about the Montauk Point Lighthouse: 1. It was the first lighthouse built in NY state 2. It is the fourth-oldest active lighthouse in the United States. 3. It was the first public works project of the new United States. 4. Looking at the photo above, the erosion of Turtle Hill since the lighthouse was built has been severe.
