Text at the end of Mecum description.
*BUYER BEWARE: There have been accusations that this car was not born a Royal Plum car and that it was not born an original Z28

I got a email from Ken Boje last night explaining that he bought this car years ago after he sold Lil Hoss. Discovered vin welded in and a bunch of other stuff and returned it. Included screen shots of when it sold on Ebay as a old drag car with no engine or trans.

My client hired me to inspect the car last month and the report was very revealing about the car being bogus. My report listed the car as a rebodied recreation of a 67 Z28 with a fake trim tag and re-stamped drivetrain. Along with that the hidden Vin stamping in the cowl being cut out of the original car and installed in this body. A total train wreck. The seller told the current owner to sell it at Mecum and whatever the difference in money is he will reimburse him. No need to contact Mecum. Jerry

This reminds me of the '69 Camaro that the tags were removed from a Z or SS body and put on a different car that went thru an auction at a very high price. Somehow, and I have a dim recall, it was determined the car was fake and the tags/title were bought from an individual that buried the original body on his property and was dug up.
This was quite a few years ago...8-12 ?? I think in the hay day of these cars becoming "investment" material and all sorts of "shenanigans" were going on. Getting old and losing timeline recall sucks.

We all need to be careful when we post information. The thread became confusing when post #4 referenced another totally different car sold at the Midwest Car Exchange. In fact I was under the impression they were the same cars.
The bottom line the car being sold at Mecum this weekend has a questionable past as outlined by Ken Boje (see his subsequent post detailing discrepancies note in his 2008 ownership/inspection). The claim of car of being rebodied and fake trim tag are noted by a recent inspection by Jerry M. As with any car purchase do your homework. I updated to clarify that there were inspections performed by both Ken Boje and Jerry M. at different times.

Gordon Collett owned a speed shop in Portsmouth Ohio. Wonder if it is the same guy?

Be curious to see/hear how the car is sold at Mecum. Wondering if there will be an announcement, and if so, how it is to be worded.

Rapid Rabbit II is a known car at this time. Almost positive it is in or near Chicago.

I was told this was the trim tag and the car when it was initially found in a field.

Bottom line is Boje owned it and documented it as a fake. He notified Mecum and Mecum added the language. Not sure how Jerry telling him he doesn't need to tell Mecum helps the hobby.
