Judging by your spare and the build sheet, it looks like the car had the basic 14x7" steel wheels with conventional pop-on hubcap and trim ring. The hubcap is a later version of the '63-'64 era Mercury cap but simpler, stamped without "Mercury" lettering. I assume the wheel is the same as found in '70 Mach 1 Mustangs of that year. The 14x7 "Styled Steel Wheel" option was listed at $36.90. It was a new design with 5 slots versus the 12 slot '68-'69 14"x6" wheel your car seems to be fitted with. Center cap design was the same, snapping to the inside of the recessed bolt circle as opposed to outside the nubs of the conventional steel wheel. These wheels were also offered as a no cost option on 1970 Mach 1 Mustangs for just that year but continued to be offered by Mercury on Cougars in 1971. (Last photo is a '63/'64 era Mercury scripted cap of mine mounted on a Rocket chrome reverse wheel just for reference)

The silver tag is the engine ID tag that bolts onto the coil bracket. Here's the one on Grampa's Lincoln

Not quite-all 1970 Cougar Eliminators got 14x6" wheels, 1970 Cyclone received 14x7" wheels. Caps are the same but trim rings are likely different? You can see the caps sit deeper inside the dish of the Cyclone rims in pictures. I know Mustangs had 14x7 in Mach 1 and 15x7 on Boss 302/429, but Cougars didn't. Not even Boss 302 powered ones (I do know that the 15" rims and F60-15 tires required an upgraded spindle for the Mustang to pass Ford's durability tests). Ford and Mercury did things differently on many details in that era, I've learned never to assume anything.

Dammit...I just bought a set from a Cougar guy up by you for more money than that. Also found NOS center caps.
