Did you know . . .

When the producers of BULLITT met with city leaders of San Francisco, the unstated agreement was that the cars would not exceed 35 MPH on public streets. When filming the chase commenced in May of 1968 there were a deluge of phone calls to City Hall and SFPD that cars were running as fast as 110 MPH! This lead to the old adage; "It is better to ask for forgiveness then permission."

These are replicas of the cars used in BULLITT BTW.

You can credit the stunt vehicle coordinator (Carey Loftin) for customizing the 1968 Mustang GT used in BULLITT by adding Torque-Thrust wheels. It didn't suffer the same fate that the Charger did which had wheel covers on it. Every time a jump or severe turn (which caused the 14x6" wheels to flex) was done, it lost at least one wheel cover. A total of 8 can be seen lost throughout the chase. If only they had added the Chrome Magnum 500 Road Wheels which in 1968 did not use trim rings - this "blooper" could have been avoided. Ahhhh . . . hindsight is always crystal clear!

Did you know . . .

As long and as extensive the Mustang's option lists were there was one important option that was not available until the 1971 model year . . . . . . . power windows.
