Rear springs are not original.
Kurt says the invoice is fake. The stampings look fake. Is the POP fake?

We all know that fake POP's have been available for some time. The seller is being a little shady about his answers to questions - "let the car speak for itself". In other words, caveat emptor. The guy selling it may not have been aware of the monkey business before he bought the car himself. He may have been taken and is trying to cut his losses. But he should not be advertising it as a real L78 car either. Best to come clean on something like this. And the people who perpetuate these fakes burn me up. It dilutes the values of the true original cars. |

Car has been sitting on $50k, and with an hour left, I don't see it budging off of that. There have been several people raising issues with the provenance of the car being a born-with L78. Tach, brake system, and other issues.
I can't really get a good enough look at the engine stamp to determine very much. Does the location of the stamp play a factor? This stamp is in the extreme upper left corner of the pad. It looks to me like the well plug on the cylinder head would interfere with the gang stamp if the stamps are in fact placed on a fully assembled engine, as I think they are. Can anyone comment as to when / where the assembly stamps are done? I thought that they had moved the VIN stamp down near the oil filter area, since the pad is obstructed by the alternator when they moved it to the passenger side after 68. Yet this one is stamped with the VIN on the pad. It is a December car - did the VIN location change after this date? |

Sold for $50K. I have seen BBC engine stampings in this location.
Such poor pictures. The trans stamping doesnt look good to me. Better pics could have helped or hindered this auction. Reproduced invoice makes the whole thing suspect.

That is the time that the VIN is stamped, although you are probably referring to the engine build date/code. Big blocks are deck stamped prior to the heads going on and the plug on the front of the head will not allow a correctly placed stamp.
