I have a 1969 Z-28 in my shop with a CF 1007B Stamped code on the right forward Axle tube and an I 27 8 cast. It has a 4:10 Posi in it with a GM carrier and a Perfect Circle gear set. I can't nor have I ever seen a CF code, What is this? Bill

That sounds like a Chevelle code (CCF)

Many Chevelle 12 bolt rear ends have been stripped of their brackets and had Camaro spring perches welded on and installed in Camaros. CF is a '69 Chevelle 12 bolt with 3.31 and Posi. It will be 61 inches wide overall, where the Camaro rear end would have been 60 inches wide.

60" would be backing plate to backing plate, correct? Bill |

Does it have ears for the Chevelle upper control arms cast into the center section?

No. Backing plate measurements are useless. Total width is the only thing that you should be concerned with. 60 inches is total width for first gen Camaros, '68-'79 Novas and '64-'67 Chevelles. 61 inches is total width for '70-'81 Camaro and '68-'72 Chevelle.

Good call, upon close inspection, it appears someone HAD cut off the ears and ground the housing down. This housing is from a 1969 Chevelle: CF 3:31 Posi. cast dated I 27 8. Is the CF an early (2) digit code like the (2) digit engine codes were before the 396 became a 402 and all the engine codes became (3) digits going forward? Thank You everyone for your input. Bill

The axle code changed to 3 digits with the 1970 model year.
