Re: MARIOS PACE CAR!
I dont know about Mario but AJ was contacted and staying true to character said he didnt remember or care. Just recently one of the Indianapolis papers interviewed past and present winning drivers about the whereabouts of their pace cars. Some answered with pride saying they considered their pace car as valueable to them as the Borg Warner. Others shrugged and said they didnt know what became of them. I guess it just depends on the personality? I agree that these two missing cars are significant to Camaro history. If not for the significance they played promoting the Camaro during the first generation then simply to put an end to the mystery and speculation that has spawned so many half truths and flat out tall tales.

Re: MARIOS PACE CAR!
I'd love to hear more about your car Stefano. Not that it applies to your car since I have yet to see any specifics but often I see owners confuse the 037 or 047 delivery date stamps found on the vin plate of the "speedway order" for the number the speedway assigned the vehicle. From the information gathered at wwwcamaropacecars.com that particular speedway number would likely be on a station wagon. Again, I'd be very interested to hear more about the car as I'm sure others would as well. Just an off the cuff conclusion but my bet is that it is #77 and part of the 10 identical speedway replicas.

Re: MARIOS PACE CAR!
[ QUOTE ]
OKAY SO IT MAY NOT BE A YENKO OR A COPO BUT THE STORY I GOT FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER IS THAT THIS CAR WAS SUPPOSED TO GO TO ANDRETTI! I BOUGHT IT FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER WHO BOUGHT THE CAR IN ALLENTOWN PA. AS MOST OF YOU KNOW, ANDRETTI LIVES IN LEBANON PA. ABOUT 20 MINS FROM THERE, MAKES SENSE RIGHT? DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE CAR HE BOUGHT AND WHAT DEALER AFTER THE RACE? ANY QUESTIONS OR HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED! 617-293-0077 THANK YOU, JOHN [/ QUOTE ] Mario lives in Nazareth, Pa. which is close to Allentown. I have been told that the car that he actually took, is no longer with him. One local person told me that it ended up in a local salvage yard back in the late 70's. There is another local person who "Claims" to have this car, but others in the know say it is not the car that Mario won in 69. I have seen him around town on ocassion, but never actually spoken to him. |

Re: MARIOS PACE CAR!
This car has been for sale for years. The story about it has no real docs or facts to back it up. This pace car was at Camaro Nationals @ Carlisle in 2004.
