Default Craftsman Ratchet 24967 L-AD

Bought a bunch of crap from a Vo-Tech this week. Actually, got a lot of REALLY nice stuff, but came with the usual load of crap that one must sort through.
Got two REALLY nice SK swivel head ratchets, full set of Snap-on metric deep sockets 9-19, a set of Craftsman 3/8 drive thin wall deep sockets and a very nice 1/2" Dewalt impact wrench, barely used.... but i digress.

The ratchet on top I have owned for quite some time. KZ-44995. I find myself reaching for this over the other 3/8 ratchets in my boxes. Very comfortable, and as you can see, the only thing that even shows wear is the selector lever. Not one chip or peel in the chrome.

My questions are on the other one. 24967 L-AD. Although a bit tarnished, it does not have ANY pitting. I did a search and can't find much info. I found a couple for sale on ebay. They have the same number, but the letter code following the number is different.

I suspect the letter code is a date code. Is that correct? Also, as you can see, the quick release button and mechanism is missing. Is there a repair kit available? If so, what part number am I looking for?

I suspect the guts on these are interchangeable between the two bodies. Can anyone verify?

Lastly, can anyone date either or both of these ratchets?

I would guess the chrome one is 60 tooth and the other one is 40 tooth.

Thanks for any help.

I don't know that Craftsman ever supplied repair parts for the tools they sold. Seems the tools were made by other manufacturers and branded to Craftsman. Every tool I ever had an issue with was just exchanged for a new one, that was usually different appearing and functioning.
The "AD" ratchet, to me, looks more comfortable to use and if the mechanisms do interchange, may be a worthwhile move.

The KZ is the most comfortable ratchet I own. I don't like ratchets with "screwdriver" handles for some reason. That is why it is my "go to" more than any other 3/8.

The AD ratchet was made overseas and came with the spline drive socket sets, which explains why I have never seen one.

Don't know about repair kits for that particular ratchet Lynn, but 50 years ago Sears tool Dept stocked repair kits for these ratchets. Maybe there's one out there somewhere??
In the 70s I installed kits in these Made In USA ratchets multiple times including one I never got around to. Craftsman was great tools until they began sourcing from China in the 80s. - Bill W

Just FYI, the guts interchange between the Chinese made ratchet and the USA made ratchet.

Regardless of which set of guts is in, the Chinese does not change directions as easily as the 44995.

Plan to throw the Chinese one in with a bunch of extra tools I got in this lot and sell cheap on CList.
