Does anyone know why reproduction redlines have the red stripe closer to the wheel than the originals did?

No, but I sure wish some repro mfgr would do the '67 only version right, including the proper number of tread grooves!!!
The originals had sidewall issues leading to a switch to the '68 version by the end of the '67 model year.
