Default 12 bolt yoke replacement

It looks as if the original 12 bolt rear end yoke in the 70 Nova may be a little tired (slight play in it) As this car gets "driven", I want to replace with;

1. One that "looks" somewhat original (it is the strapped/bolted type, not u bolt)
2. will bolt right on and is very strong/durable

Any tips appreciated

Pretty sure it was Denny's driveshafts, nice stuff.

When you say it has play in it, what exactly do you mean?

That is exactly what I was thinking? Side to side, like worn splines? Most likely pinion bad as well. Or in and out (back and forth), problem with bearing or preload?

Mine got worn in the saddles where the U joint sits so the cups would slowly rotate and make a clicking sound as the driveshaft rotated. Couldn't tighten them with new straps. I ended up buying a NOS flange at the time.

When a person is real POOR and cannot afford new stuff ... I have center-punched the saddle area in multiple places and that stopped the cup rotation. Even did this on a dirt track stock car ... Craig

Thx all, wear appears to be "slightly" and I mean slightly in the saddle area (as JKZ stated), not in the pinion area. Looks as if the cups have the slightest amount of play when d shaft is rotated and tightening/torqueing down does not seem to solve it. Will check out Denny's, Thx Mike

There are 3 different types of after market yokes. There are cast, forged and billet. The cast yoke is going to look more correct, but the forged yoke is the strongest. Then there are the 2 different types of U joint retainers, yous being the strap type. There are also 3 different size U joints. Yours should be for the 1310 U joint. If the new yoke comes with a thin washer do not use it. Use your original thick washer.
