775/14 bias ply redlines
I'm going to put on new tires on my 66 Chevelle , 775/14 redlines. I added 67 power brakes with the stock 4 piston calipers and the two piece rotors up front. I bought a set of DG 14X6 wheels with the factory type Mag wheel covers. I was curious what brand gives the best ride? BF Goodrich,US Royal or Firestone? I like the look of the pie crust sidewalls on the US Royals. Anyone have any good experience with them?
Thanks Dave.

Dave,
I run Goodyears and they are a much better tire. G70 on rear and E70 on front. I was running the Firestones for many years and just wanted a different tire. Have you put the DG rallys on yet? They would not clear the stock 4 piston calipers. They are good for single piston. 69 and up. Mine was a 67 Nova with F70 up front. Tire size makes no difference on rim clearance and the Caliper. Do you want the squared off look or the new radial rounded look? Dave 67 Nova Boy |

'67 SS 396 Chevelles ordered with J52 front disc (4 piston) brakes were delivered with 14x6 DG "Disc Brake" rally wheels as standard equipment. No other wheel or cover option was offered with J52. N96 mag covers are killer on a '66, especially on a black or red car!! Paint the wheels black and use '65-'66 specific covers for the proper look. I have Firestone 7.75s on my '66 with no complaints. These were on a 67 Nova with factory Disc and would not work. That is why I asked if he tried them yet. Chevelle may have more room that a Nova?

Mag cap comparison
The cap on top is the '67-'68 version, bottom is '65-'66. Primarily the '66 cap has smaller vent holes and the center cap appears separate from the spokes while the '67 cap has larger holes and the center cap appears molded into the spokes.
I believe the painted spokes came in '69 or '70?? Willow green is a great color, really pops in BC/CC!! Bill W |

I am far from an expert on early Novas, didn't disc brake cars use 14x5 DA wheels? Since DA wheels were used on NON-SS disc brake '67 Chevelles, I am surprised DGs wouldn't fit a Nova? Interesting!

Bill, Thanks for your wealth of knowledge. I purchased the larger hole with the cap molded into the spokes. They're Black spokes so they must be 69-70. Either way they'll look good. This site is the best car forum going. Thanks Yenko.net.

you can see the bulge the rim has to clear the caliper. the DG does not have that on a chevy ll.
