Several years ago I talked to Quanta about the situation. Their reply "Gee, you're the first person to have that problem".
I found some NOS GM belts for the short belt (crank to water pump) and the alternator belt. Been down the 1/4 mile many times with not one issue. The short belt definitely helps keep the stress off the alternator belt.

My Chevelle's belts have started squealing at low rpm! I've tried changing them up to no avail! Its a right PITA.

Thanks for the input on Quanta belts. I have them on my 72 LT-1 survivor and will definitely be changing them out for current belts. I also have repros on my 71 Boss 351 - Marti belts, I believe. Are they prone to the same problems?

I've had good luck with Quanta.

Are any of your pulleys powder coated?
