Default Factory Stock L72 427 Build

One of the factory stock racers gave me a chance to build a L72 427 which I appreciate. Growing up around GM performance cars as kid in SoCal, then having a 68 Z28 with a L72 in high school left me very excited about this engine build. The build consisted of a 289 casting block with all the machine work, turning a tuftrided indexed 366 crank, custom JE pistons, modified oiling system, Bullet L72/LS6 cam, unported 840 heads, custom valves from Ferrea, factory GM rectangle port intake. Power in factory stock trim with a conservative tune was 535 HP @ 6300 RPM and 523 HP @ 6700 through the factory cast exhaust manifolds with the factory correct carb.

I was fortunate to have owned a 66 Vette roadster with the 427-425HP when I was in my very early 20'S. 40 years later I still feel that car. History like that never dies.

A certain, 2 door post L89 "396" went 12.12 at PSMCDR, haven't seen any L72 COPO Chevelles run yet, they would be the heavier 2 door hard top, so maybe a little faster? I would love to see this combo at PSMCDR.......

Translate that 427 to a 69 Corvette spec L88 with much better flowing exhaust manifolds and you will see why they are low 11 second cars. No wonder they break out even when they aren't trying.
